INTRODUCTION AND DEMONSTRATION OF AMATEUR RADIO WIRELESS COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

A program on “Introduction And Demonstration of Amateur Radio Wireless Communication Technology” was organized by National Institute of Amateur Radio, Hyderabad, at ABES Institute of Technology on Mar 4, 2011 in the Institute's Auditorium at 10:30 AM. National Institute of Amateur Radio, Hyderabad, conducts various activities for popularization of Amateur Radio. NIAR has been promoting and popularizing amateur radio in the country for over 25 years. They had set-up the equipment and facilities at ABES Institute of Technology for the hand-on practice during the demonstration session. More than 200 students and faculty members of ABES IT Group of Institutions attended the program. The students of B.Tech. found this program particularly useful & interesting.

Amateur radio is a community of people that use radio transmitters and receivers to communicate with other Amateur radio operators. The activities of the Radio Amateurs include
  • HF radios hams can talk to other hams in literally any part of the globe.
  • VHF and UHF transceivers hams enjoy extremely reliable communications within their local community.
  • QRP - Communicating with "very low power" is a challenge that many hams enjoy. QRP is usually practiced on the HF bands.
  • There are several Digital Amateur Radio communication techniques that allow Hams to exchange text messages, send emails or even connect to Internet.
  • Amateur television - It's just like real television because it is real television.
  • Slow Scan TV - Send pictures around the world for little or no cost.
  • Contests - You can put your radio operating skills up against other hams and teams of hams.
  • Emergency and other volunteer services - Floods, landslides, earthquakes, Cyclones, Accidents (Rail / Road / Air). Whenever `normal' communications go out, hams are ready to use their radios to provide emergency communication services to their communities.
  • Satellite communications - Hams operate using their own satellites for world wide communication using Walkie-Talkies.... They are easy to use too.

The Society of Energy Engineers and Energy Managers (SEEM), the professional body of energy auditors and energy managers in association with ABES IT Group of Institutions organized a Seminar at ABES IT (Campus-2) Ghaziabad on 22nd Jan 2011. The theme of the Seminar was to encourage more and more use of Renewable Energy Sources for long term sustainability of the globe and our future generations focusing on “Renewable Energy Certificate concept”.

6th PAN COMMONWEALTH FORUM

LE MERIDIEN, KOCHI, KERALA
6th Pan Commonwealth Forum was held from November 24th to 28th at Le Meridien, Kochi, Kerala.
The principal organizer is the Commonwealth of Learning head quartered in the U.K. whose CEO is the highly acclaimed and knighted academician Sir John Daniel. This Forum is held every two years in one of the Commonwealth Countries and this time it was done in India. One of the reasons the Indian bid for hosting this forum was successful this time was that the Commonwealth Games too were held in India this year around the same time. Indira Gandhi National Open University was the Indian associate who managed the entire event locally.
The highlight was the magnitude of the event with almost 260 papers presented with a participation of 70 commonwealth countries. There were almost 2 to 3 sessions everyday being held for the period of 4 days with each session having almost 6-8 concurrent sub sessions under different sub themes being done. Participation was primarily by Government institutions although it was open to all academicians. ABES IT GROUP OF INSTITUTIONS was represented by its Director and Group Dean of Management – Dr. Monica Gupta – who presented a paper titled “Education Apartheid”. This paper was not only appreciated in its content and radical way of thinking and approach but was also one of the most discussed papers which also manifested itself in attracting several questions.

BLOOD DONATION CAMP
11TH NOVEMBER, 2010
A Blood Donation Camp was organized in the Institute on 11th Nov 2010 (Thursday) in collaboration with Rotary Club (Central), Ghaziabad. A total 0f One Hundred & Six units of Blood, were donated by the students, staff & faculty members for the noble cause.

PRESTIGIOUS ASSIGNMENTS AWARDED BY BUREAU OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY (BEE), MINISTRY OF POWER, GOVT. OF INDIA, (ROUTED THROUGH FICCI)

The Institute and faculties are contributing towards society improvement & resource conservation by participating in various initiatives taken by Govt. of India. One of the current prestigious assignments awarded by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Govt. of India (routed through FICCI) is Energy Efficiency Improvement & training about e-Filing of Designated energy Consumers.
The Ministry of Power through its gazette notification had identified 9 sectors with threshold limit of energy consumption to be the Designated Consumers (DCs). These are: Thermal Power Stations, Fertilizers, Cement, Iron & Steel, Chlor-Alkali, Aluminium, Textile, Pulp & Paper and Railways. The e-filing & training for 30 DCs (Biggest Industries) of Punjab state is getting done by our Institute & qualified faculties.
Also consultancy services provided and Energy Audit performed by our faculty Prof. Y.C.Gupta at Switch gear manufacturing plant (located at Murthal, Haryana) of M/S Indo Asian fuse gear Ltd.

TRAINING FOR INTERNATIONAL DELEGATION FROM BHUTAN
JUNE 21 - JULY 3, 2010
ABES IT Group of Institutions along with Academy Of Industrial Management, Delhi organized a 2 weeks training programme on “Modern Stores Management & Inventory Control” from June 21st to July 3rd at ABES-IT for Penden Cement Co. of Bhutan The training program was focused on latest techniques of Inventory management & procurement; So that minimum resources & money are blocked on account of inventory. Prof. S.K.Varshney of the ABES-IT and Mr HK Sharma (IES), chairman - Indian Institute for Materials Management apprised the trainees on latest trends & techniques so as to help achieve better materials efficiency back home in their organization in Bhutan.
The trainees were extremely pleased with the quality of program, faculties, infrastructure & facilities at the ABES-IT and shown interest for higher frequency of such programs with deputation of more trainees from Bhutan and other countries.
Some more management development programmes (MDPs) for top Indian corporate & international programs are in pipeline.

THE MICROSOFT SEMINAR ON WEB TECHNOLOGIES
22TH APRIL 2010
ABES-IT organized a Seminar in association with Microsoft Technologies. Venkatesh Sarvasiddhi -Evangelist, Partner & Architect Audience Marketing Engagement Program of Microsoft Corporation in India whose primary responsibility is to engage with the right audience in Partner & Influencer community and create a strong and sustainable engagement framework for Microsoft India; was the resource person for the day. A massive participation of 260 students was observed during this Seminar. The training provided by MICROSOFT STUDENT PARTNER on 22nd April was quite useful for our students; in order to understand the changing IT trends and how to shape one's careers accordingly. This was in the light of the "Spark Yatra Initiative" that this seminar was held declaring our long term association with Microsoft Technologies.

WEBINAR ON CLOUD COMPUTING
APRIL 13, 2010
A webinar was organized on April 13, 2010 on topic “Cloud Computing and Windows Azure”. It was a Live Screening of the Microsoft Tech-ed session from Bangalore with the help of an Microsoft Student Partner. The guest Speaker for the Live Screening was Mr.Manuvir Das. An In-house introductory session on “Cloud Computing” was given by Tarun Kumar Singh(President-IEEE ABES IT Student Branch) and Abhishek Garg(General Secretary-IEEE ABES IT Student Branch). This event helped students to understand the upcoming cloud computing concept and Windows Azure platform. The duration of the event was 1:30 Hour and was attended by 156 IEEE and Non-IEEE Students.

SEMINAR ON ETHICAL HACKING
9TH APRIL 2010
There was a seminar on “Ethical Hacking” by Mr. Santu Purkait, from NETTECH (Company which deals with network management) on April 9, 2010. He demonstrated various techniques for hacking. He described MAC Changer and Spoofing, IP Spoofing, Cryptography, Fake mail, phishing and others. He took the session for 2 Hours and was attended by 25 IEEE and 123 non-IEEE members.






JOB FAIR @ABES-IT CHANNEL PARTNERS HT SHINE.COM
22nd & 23rd JANUARY 2010
A Job Fair was organised on ABES IT campus on the 22nd and 23rd of January 2010 in colloboration with Shine.com. Almost 100 companies participated in this fair.The Hindustan Times Group media extensively covered this event.
Students have so far gone for live training with several companies like Kirloskar Oil, Future Group, Wipro, Fly Telecom, Bling Telecom, HDFC Bank, Unicon, Tata Mutual Fund and many more.




TECHNOTHRON - THE TECH FEST
8TH APRIL TO 17TH APRIL 2010
The students of ABES-IT displayed their technical acumen while participating in the technical fest "TECHNOTHRON" held between 8th April 2010 and 17th April 2010. A host of technical events were organized namely Engineer's eye, Hardwired-the electrical event, Technical Paper presentation, Extempore, Technical & Management quizz, Sale Purchase and win, Job seeker, C C++ and Java programming event organized by NIIT, counter strike, Board Decoration through waste materials etc. The enthusiasm and strife for excellence could be observed with over 250 students participating in the said events.


FESTIN 'O'BEATS - ABES-IT MEGA FEST
7th and 8th of November 2009
Holistic development is the need of the day. In order to cater to the same, Technical education is clubbed with an array of extra-curricular activities so that our students emerge as leaders in every possible field. ABES-IT GROUP OF INSTITUTIONS announced its inaugural cultural fest "FESTIN-O-BEATS" on 7TH and 8TH of November 2009. With a plethora of events like Rock band, fashion show, kids competition, debate, extempore, face painting, graffiti, ad-mad show group & solo; dance and singing, rangoli, etc. were some of them which were highly acclaimed. The fest marked its success with over 2000 students participating from all over NCR. The events held in the fest pertained to variety of creative, literary and technical competitions. Each participant received a certificate of appreciation and the winners were suitably rewarded. "Festin-O-Beats" marked its distinction as the only fest which allowed the participants; whether internal or external; through prior filling of registration form with no registration fee.

FRESHER PARTY: CELESTA-THE FRESHERS' ZONE

Every year ABES-IT Group of Institutions welcome the youngest members of the family- The First Year students of B. Tech., MBA and PGDM. This year The Fresher Party -"Celesta" was held on the 24th of September 2009. Students zealously participated in a host of events like skits, solo and group performances, Fashion Show etc. We believe that affinity amongst the students can be developed through interaction and sharing; so that the newer ones do not feel out of the place, and get accustomed to the systems of the Institution. Whereas the senior students realize that there are other ways to welcome their juniors rather than ragging; for which the fresher party is organized.

A Teacher can frame one's future and life with the positivity he delivers. To mark the significance of the day, the students of ABES-IT bestowed their love and respect upon their teachers by organizing a teachers' day party. They hosted a variety of events for the faculty members to participate in. They gave suitable titles to all the faculty and staff members proclaiming how observant they are. They performed a variety of performances and games in honour of their teachers.
